Trusting GUS – How Intuition Guides My Work

When I was seven years old, I drew a happy face above the light switch in my bedroom and I named him GUS. It was the beginning of a lifelong relationship with something bigger than myself. He wasn’t an imaginary friend—at least not in the way children make up companions. GUS was simply there. He was a presence I could feel, a guide I could somehow hear. I never questioned it because I was too young to know I should. He would “tickle” my ear when he wanted me to listen, and over time I came to trust that sensation, even if I couldn’t explain it.
For decades after that, I stopped listening. Not intentionally—I didn’t reject my gift, I simply drowned it out. Life was loud, and I learned to quiet my inner world by leaning into distractions. I didn’t turn inward; I stayed busy, doing what I thought I was supposed to do. It wasn’t until my marraige fell apart and everything in my life cracked wide open, that GUS showed up again, patiently waiting for me to remember.
Last year, when I hired a spiritual mentor to start working with me, she explained that GUS stands for God, Universe, Spirit. Her team of guides was called the same. It felt like a wink from the universe—confirmation that what I had known since childhood had always been true. Looking back, it seems inevitable that my life and business would unfold the way they have.
GUS has been a steady companion now in my personal and professional life. Sometimes I feel like he’s just waiting patiently for me to catch up to what he already knows. As a child he tickled my ear; as an adult I feel chills or goosebumps when something important comes through. I don’t “summon” it—it simply arrives, like a breeze through an open window.
The creation of the Natural Life Business Partnership (NLBP) was one of those breezes. At the time, I was juggling a full plate—family, work, and a deep desire to create something meaningful. One day, the idea simply arrived: build a space for people like me who blend their logical and spiritual minds. A professional organization without walls or chapters, designed for the new kind of entrepreneur. I didn’t know what it would look like, but I knew it was needed.
When I first began building NLBP, I didn’t have a blueprint. What I had was a knowing—a whisper from GUS—that this was what the world would need. A place where people like me, who blended both their logical and spiritual minds, could come together in a professional community. At the time, the idea felt unusual but right. We started off as a simple coffee club and quickly gained momentum throughout the Northeast. Traditional organizations had local chapters and in-person meetings. That was “the way it was done.” But my gut told me to do it differently.

Towards the end of 2017, long before video calls became the lifeline they are today, I received a clear nudge to teach people how to connect through video. At first it sounded odd—why would professionals prefer logging in from home to sitting across from each other at a conference table? Still, I trusted it. We launched as a no-chapter professional organization in January 2018, built entirely around Zoom meetings. And when 2020 arrived, and the world shifted overnight, our community didn’t miss a beat. We were already thriving online and internationally connected. What felt unconventional at the time revealed itself to be prophetic.
It was during that same season that another phrase was given to me—“Soul Professional.” I didn’t brainstorm it, whiteboard it, or test it through focus groups. It arrived, whole and complete, like a gift placed in my hands. I immediately filed for the trademark. Those words became the heart of everything I would go on to build.
This is how my intuition works. It’s not dramatic. It’s not a booming voice from the heavens. It’s a quiet, insistent knowing. Sometimes it comes as a phrase. Sometimes an image. Sometimes just a certainty I can’t explain. And it has shaped my business in ways no spreadsheet or MBA course could.
It also shows up in my client work, especially during PSYCH-K® sessions. When I’m holding sacred space for someone—when they’ve opened themselves to possibility—I’m often shown things about their business, their strengths, or their blocks. It’s like a psychic reading for business. I don’t control it. It’s simply there.
One client stands out as the moment I realized the depth of this gift. We had been working together on and off, and I felt something wasn’t quite clicking. We weren’t working on the right block. Suddenly, Spirit whispered, “Her mother.” I hesitated, then asked gently about her mother. It was like a floodgate opening. The root of her challenge turned out to be a deep mother wound—she had learned that following her heart meant risking respect, and she had been pressured into a medical profession when she longed for something else. Once we uncovered that, everything shifted.
Moments like that have taught me to trust what comes through, even when it doesn’t make logical sense. My body helps me know when it’s real. As a child, GUS tickled my ear. Now I get chills or goosebumps whenever a client says something significant or I receive a download. It’s my cue to lean in, ask another question, or simply hold the silence until the truth emerges.
One of the places I most consciously weave GUS and intuition into my work is inside my Business Accelerator. In the first three weeks, before we talk funnels or revenue models, we dive deep into what makes each person truly unique. I believe that any successful business must be built from that place first—the soul of the entrepreneur, not just the spreadsheets. In our very first class, I guide everyone through an exercise to connect with their own spirit teams. It’s always such a powerful moment. Many of my clients have never thought to ask for guidance that way, yet when they do, the insights are profound. That assignment becomes a touchstone for everything else we build together. It’s part business fundamentals, part soul alignment, and I honestly believe there isn’t another program like it anywhere in the world.
I’ll be honest: even with all this evidence, I still wrestle with self-doubt. Part of me would love to do readings for people on demand, but I’ve never practiced it in a structured way. What I know just comes to me. I don’t do anything. And sometimes that feels like cheating—as if I need to “earn” the right to call myself intuitive. I know I need a safe space to practice, to be wrong, to stretch this muscle without fear.
I’ve also noticed I rarely receive intuitive messages about people I’m very close to. It’s as if Spirit gives us privacy, or maybe my own emotions create static on the line. Either way, I’ve learned to accept it. When I’m with clients, though, I’m very clear. I think it’s because I hold such sacred space for others in the creation process. That openness invites insight.
Recently, I decided to hold monthly Soul Circles to help me dive deeper into this side of myself. I know those who are also gifted will show up, and their vibration will naturally raise mine. It feels like a next step—both for my own growth and for the people who are curious about exploring their own gifts.
My clients love this part of our work now, but it took me a long time to share openly that I get messages. For years I kept my MBA-level strategy separate from my intuitive side, as if one would diminish the other. I’ve come to see that blending them is my biggest differentiator. Strategy without soul can feel hollow. Soul without strategy can drift. Together, they create something powerful—businesses that are both aligned and scalable, intuitive and practical.
That’s why I’m writing this today. I want more people to understand this side of me, but also to feel comfortable talking about their own gifts and intuition. We live in a world that often prizes logic and dismisses knowing. Yet some of the most successful leaders I’ve met quietly rely on their gut, their inner voice, their own version of GUS.
I believe everyone has intuition. It’s a muscle we can all learn to flex. Some people, I think, have thinner veils to the other side. They can access that guidance more easily. But no one is locked out. We are all wired to receive whispers of wisdom. We just have to create the space to hear them.
For me, that space comes in my morning rituals: quiet time, gym, no Zoom calls before late morning. I give my brain time to wander before I do. I pull oracle cards sometimes, journal, and listen. You may find your space in a walk, a shower, a commute, or a prayer.
What matters is that you honor it. When you get a nudge, follow it. When you feel goosebumps or a sudden flash of clarity, pay attention. When you feel a tickle in your ear, pause and listen.
I think of intuition as a conversation. The more you acknowledge it, the more it speaks. The more you act on it, the clearer it becomes. And yes, sometimes you’ll misinterpret or get it wrong. That’s okay. Just like any other skill, you learn by doing.
If you’ve been curious about your own intuition—or wondering how to blend your gifts with your work—consider this your invitation. Be a curious explorer. Play with your inner knowing. Join a circle. Pull a card. Ask a question in silence. See what comes back.
This is the work of the new era of leadership and entrepreneurship. It’s not about starting over. It’s about stepping into the next chapter of your success, guided not just by spreadsheets but by Spirit, not just by hustle but by alignment.
GUS has been with me since I was seven. He’s still here now, guiding me, nudging me, tickling my ear when something matters. And if you’re reading this, maybe it’s your nudge, too.
If you’re feeling called to explore your own intuition—or you’re curious about how to weave it into your life or business—join me at one of my upcoming Soul Circles. They’re a safe, welcoming space to practice, learn, and raise our collective vibration. Or simply reply to this email and share your story with me. I’d love to hear how intuition shows up for you.
